“To the world, you are a parent. To your family, you are the world.”

In our youth, we are often so consumed by our own aspirations and the myriad of challenges that life throws at us. Whether it’s work, health, finance, career, or relationships, these issues can leave us feeling overwhelmed. Love, especially in our Indian culture, brings its own set of worries. As Khan Sir aptly puts it, “Clearing UPSC is easier than having a love marriage in India.” This is a reality many of us face, adding to our stress.

Amid these struggles, we sometimes forget that our parents are ageing and may feel increasingly lonely. Parents rarely expect anything from their children beyond time and care. Despite the busyness and hardships, it’s crucial to carve out time for our parents. Simple gestures like asking if they’ve eaten, checking on their health, or reminding them to take their medicine on time mean the world to them.

Taking time to talk to your parents, sharing a meal, going for a walk together, or just giving them a hug can strengthen your bond and make them feel loved and valued. These small acts can remind them how important they are in your life.

Sometimes, we might be in a bad mood due to various reasons. During such times, it’s best to avoid talking to our parents in anger. If they approach you, take a moment to calm down, excuse yourself, and then return to talk to them when you are in a better frame of mind. Never speak harshly to your ageing parents; they are like gods in our lives, the reason we exist today.

This is a personal experience that underscores the importance of caring for our parents despite the busyness and challenges we face. Love and cherish them, as their presence is a blessing. If ever you feel like arguing with them, choose silence instead. Show them immense love and care, for their happiness and well-being are paramount.
